25 YEARS OF CRITICAL REFLECTION

OASE, Journal for Architecture is celebrating its 25th anniversary.
During this time, OASE has evolved into an international professional
journal in which a reflective and critical approach to architecture,
urban design and landscape architecture is the mainstay. This jubilee
is being marked by a special edition of the journal, a symposium and
a travelling exhibition, presenting the four periods of OASE’s
history and introducing the public to the specificities of this
“magazine of neither”.

OASE 75

Compiling the most important essays and background articles published
in OASE over the last 25 years, this anthology affords an overview of
the themes that have dominated architectural discourse over recent
decades in the Lowlands and beyond. Set in a broader context by
introductory texts and reflections by prominent architecture
historians, this publication constitutes an important source of
information on developments in academic debate as well as
professional practice in the fields of architecture, urban design and
landscape architecture.

SYMPOSIUM

We would also like to seize the opportunity to examine the changing
role and the future of journals for architecture. What impact do
journals have on the discourse and on architecture culture? What is
the relationship between developments in the practice of architecture
and journals? In what way do reflection, research, criticism and
practice influence each other? And what is OASE’s position in all of
this?

You are cordially invited to the round table discussion with a lecture by
Beatriz Colomina
and interventions by, among others, Bernard Colenbrander,
Gerard van Zeyl, Alexander Tzonis, Maarten Delbeke and Ole Bouman.
The discussion will be followed by a reception.

Date: Tuesday, 9 September 2008, from 2 pm to 5 pm
Location: Netherlands Architecture Institute,
Museumpark 25, Rotterdam
